RECREATIONAL
Recreational Cheer is a class designed to teach the fundamentals of allstar cheerleading in a fun and engaging environment. Athletes will learn cheer elements including: Stunts, tumbling, jumps and dance.
AGES 7+ Friday 6:45pm-8:15pm This class provides the time needed to learn new and perfect familiar skills in all of the elements of cheer EVERY week. Athletes in this class will be provided with the opportunity to be a member of our performance team that will attend community events. Performance combinations will be taught as part of the class. AGES 6 & UNDER Monday 5:30pm-6:00pm This class is designed to meet the developmental needs of our youngest athletes while introducing them to the fundamentals of cheer in a fun, safe environment. Athletes may be offered the opportunity to be a part of our performance team that will attend community events. |
TUMBLING
BEGINNER Fridays 5:30-7:00pm
This class is designed for athletes who are working on basic tumbling skills including forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands and walkovers. No experience is required. We use a drills and skills method designed to ensure your athlete has the strength and knowledge to safely complete these tumbling skills. INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED Sundays 1:00-2:30pm This class is designed for athletes with tumbling experience. Athletes will focus on drills and skill development for handspring, tucks and layouts. This class requires that all athletes have a solid front and back walkover. |
COMPETITIVE
FULL-TIME
Athletes in this program will practice 2-3 times per week and will attend 4-6 competitions per year. Teams may compete at the Prep or the Elite level depending on each team’s skill. Levels and age divisions will be determined based on participation. This may also include a Non-Tumbling team. These teams may attend competitions that are multiple day events and require out of town accommodations. This program is for athletes committed to practicing 4-6 hours per week.

PART-TIME
Athletes in this program will practice once per week and attend 1-3 competitions per year. These teams may compete in the Novice or Prep division based on team skill. Competitions for these teams will be one day events. This program is for athletes who want to commit to practice one day per week for 1.5 - 2 hours. All U6 teams will be part time competitive teams.

It has been in operation since 2006 and serves the community’s youth and adults who are looking for a new and exciting competitive opportunity or recreational experiences. Cheri McCurdy-Ducre
Gym Owner/Head Coach Born and raised in Windsor Ontario, Cheri has been involved in a multitude of athletic and social activities. As a young girl she participated in Cross Country, Track and Field, Softball, Ballet and Gymnastics. She experienced success in almost all of her activities having held city records in Cross Country and track and field. In gymnastics she held Regional, Provincial and State (Michigan) titles and had a very rewarding and successful competitive career. She was first introduced to Cheerleading during a year her family spent in Lansing Michigan when she was picked out of 250 girls who tried out, to be a member of the 8-member team at Gardner Jr. High. Back in Windsor she continued to participate in cheerleading at W.D. Lowe Secondary School until she graduated. In 1984 she moved to El Paso to attend the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) where she was given a partial scholarship for Track and Field. In 1996 she became a member of the UTEP cheerleading squad. Not only did she travel across the United States as a college cheerleader, she also had the opportunity to cheer at Bowl Games and NCAA basketball tournaments during each of her years on the squad. In 1990 she was named as coach of the UTEP cheerleading squad. During her years in college she began coaching gymnastics and cheerleading at a local gym club. After graduating from college with a degree in Music Education, Cheri began coaching gymnastics on a full time basis. During her coaching career Cheri has coached high level gymnasts and cheerleaders in Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Michigan and back home here in Windsor. Cheri was instrumental in trying to build a resurgence of cheerleaders in the city of Windsor coaching teams for the Essex Ravens and helping with the re-launch of the cheerleading squad at the University of Windsor. In 2005 Cheri had the opportunity to coach under Miss Beth Johnson (Vizion Cheer) at Deborah’s Stage Door for the performing arts. After experiencing the excitement of Competitive All Star Cheer she decided to bring the sport back home to Windsor and started Northstar Cheer Inc. Coaching experience:

Linda McCurdy
Gym Owner/Coach Linda McCurdy is a practicing Criminal Lawyer and the Co-Owner of Windsor Essex County’s only dedicated All-Star Competitive Cheerleading gym, North Star Cheer Inc. She was three time OFSSA Champion in High Jump and Champion on Balance Beam during her high school career and attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) on a full scholarship for High Jump where she achieved All American Status. Linda was Canadian National Junior High Jump Champion and National Senior Champion four times. She represented Canada in two Level Three NCCP Certification in High Jump, Level One in Trampoline and Gymnastics and Level 5 USASF (USA Spirit Federation) Certification for Cheerleading. She began her coaching career in Texas in the 1980’s and has thirty years experience coaching high performance athletes. Linda Graduated from UTEP with a degree in English Literature and holds an LLB from the University of Windsor and a JD from the University of Detroit Mercy. She also worked as a teach with an emphasis on Special Education and a consultant in Los Angeles, Ca. |
Nina
Coach Nina is our own homegrown coach having been one of our original team members as a mini. She has developed into a level 5 competitive athlete and was a member of the Vision Allstars level 5 team until a devastating knee injury took her out, Nina is a high school graduate who plans to pursue post secondary education. Nina has been coaching for NSC for 6 years starting as a CIT for the Semi Competitive team. She is now one of our most valuable coaches and has a seriously amazing knack for choreography. |
Robyn
Coach Robyn has been with Northstar Cheer inc. for the past 10 years. She started off with our AKO sideline team; she was instrumental in developing the St Clair College sideline cheer team, which ran successfully for 5 years. She graduated from St Clair College, with Human Resources, Office Administration, Medical Office Administration, she is currently working as Medical Office Administration at local urgent care clinic. She has CPR and medical training. She has been a dedicated coach and an integral part of the coaching team. |
AMANDA
Coach Amanda is a practicing Criminal Lawyer and a Coach at North Star Cheer. Amanda competed in provincial tumbling and artistic gymnastics. She has 5 years of coaching experience as a gymnastics coach. Amanda also participated in competitive cheering at Vipers Cheerleading in London, Ontario. She graduated from Western University with an Honours Specialization in Philosophy. After taking 2 years off from school to work with individuals in conflict with the law and who had mental health and addiction issues, she graduated from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law with a JD. |

In order to build stunts and pyramids each athlete has a job that must be done in conjunction with the other team members. No one part can operate without the other. In an Allstar Cheer routine the choreography relies on strict adherence to the part each member plays, to avoid disaster. Our objective is to teach employees who work together and to understand the importance of team work though our amazing sport.
